\"BuildMeasureLearn\"So how does a pivot actually work? \u00a0In my last post<\/a>, I talked about the ten type of pivots from the world of Lean Startup<\/a>. \u00a0Let me illustrate how pivots work by using\u00a0CSP Fast Pass, my latest effort to help people and businesses be more successful applying Scrum and Agile,\u00a0as a case study.<\/p>\n

In my talk<\/a> at Agile Portugal 2016, I talked about the various twists and turns we took while on the\u00a0CSP Fast Pass journey until we arrived\u00a0the program we have today: a\u00a0four-month, on-demand,\u00a0guided, work study program to help Scrum and Agile practitioners continue their professional journey. \u00a0In my opinion, I feel\u00a0CSP Fast Pass has already gone\u00a0through two\u00a0pivots.<\/p>\n

  1. Zoom Out<\/strong> – it took me about two\u00a0years to understand that individual courses, i.e. features, do not sell. \u00a0It does not matter the topic, the location nor the timing. \u00a0My experience has showed me what people want is a complete package, i.e. a larger product, that finishes with a\u00a0professional certification. \u00a0In the case of CSP Fast Pass, at the end of the program participants\u00a0have completed all the educational requirements to become a \u00a0Certified Scrum Professional\u00a0(CSP).<\/li>\n
  2. Technology<\/strong> – I love to teach. \u00a0I also tend to think that in-person, classroom training provides an overall better learning experience for the learners. \u00a0However, after reflecting\u00a0on four to five years of market data, I feel my personal biases for in-person training prevented me from seeing that most people\u00a0will spend no more than two days out of the office for professional training. \u00a0The CSP program at the Scrum Alliance<\/a> requires\u00a0educational requirements are seventy\u00a0hours<\/strong> of continuing education or almost nine\u00a0days<\/strong> of training!! \u00a0That disconnect is a problem. \u00a0This would be a challenge for CSP Fast Pass if one assumes the technology to deliver the training would be all in-person classroom instruction. \u00a0Late last year, we pivoted CSP Fast Pass to a predominantly on-demand program using our C6 approach that couples short videos with on-the-job application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So what pivots are on the horizon for this product? \u00a0It is hard to say since our understanding of the market need around CSP Fast Pass continues to grow and evolve. \u00a0While I think we have product-solution fit and hints of a product-market fit<\/a>, we do not have a business model fit. \u00a0Business model fit is the goal, so the next pivots will be about proving product-market fit and exploring the business model fit.<\/p>\n

    If I had to guess about what comes next, I think a customer need or channel pivot will offer new data for CSP Fast Pass and perhaps give insight on how to develop business model fit. \u00a0I wonder what experiments we can run to prove (or disprove) those hypothesis?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
